Project 1- The Super Stock Race Car

car-1-s-race car ready to be cleaned up

The first project was to get my old dirt circle track race car out of the garage and ready for sale. This has been a great race car but I haven’t raced since 2008, and I need to let someone else have some fun with it.
I’ve had that car in my garage since I stopped racing after the 2008 season. We didn’t have a “Super Stock” class until 2009. This car ran as a Street Stock, But it fits into the Super Stock Class better than the existing Street Stock class.
The body was pretty beat up so I made new side panels and front fenders.Looks pretty beat up doesn’t it?  That’s the way it was left in the garage for the last 8 years.

I had to make all new fiberglass for the sides and both front fenders.

The front fenders that I was using before were ABS plastic sheets cut to the shape and then just bolted in place.

So I decided to make the body panels “Race Friendly” by using a flex agent in the resin. This makes the panel bend when hit instead of crack or shatter. Check out the video

So with new side panels and new nose the car ends up looking like this.
